André 3000 –Listening To The Sun, is an 88-minute film set to the music of his 2023 experimental flute album, New Blue Sun.
New Blue Sun, released in November last year, surprised fans as André’s first solo project in 17 years. Instead of the anticipated rap album, he delivered an ambient, flute-centered composition spanning 87 minutes, marking a bold new direction for the OutKast icon.
Listening To The Sun offers a visual journey through the album. Set in a mysterious blue-lit room, the film captures André in quiet reflection, surrounded by an unusual array of props—including candles, a traffic cone, and a second pair of shoes that he briefly wears on his hands.
Earlier this year, André 3000 spoke about this creative shift, explaining that his age and personal growth have led him away from his rap roots: “Sometimes it feels inauthentic for me to rap because I don’t have anything to talk about in that way. I’m 48 years old. And not to say that age dictates what you rap about, but in a way, it does.”
