Aphex Twin has curated a new, nearly 200-song Spotify playlist for streetware brand Supreme.

Titled [mostly mellow], the playlist isn’t your average DJ mix; it’s a meticulously curated journey through James’s sonic influences, a sonic journey featuring the pioneering synth sounds of Joe Meek, the new wave anthems of Simple Minds, the industrial grit of Severed Heads, the ambient soundscapes of Brian Eno, and the frenetic drum ‘n’ bass of Squarepusher. And yes, a sprinkling of soul from Marvin Gaye, the pioneering electronic work of Delia Derbyshire, the sunny harmonies of The Beach Boys, the shadowy depths of Burial, and the raw energy of Ragga Twins.
The playlist also features eight tracks from the recently unearthed BBC Radiophonic Workshop archives, the very studio where electronic music was born in Britain. This is a direct line to the sounds that shaped Aphex Twin’s sonic palette.
The playlist includes “XMAS_EVET1N,” a track from Aphex Twin himself, offering a rare moment of his own work among his inspirations.
Richard D. James, the man behind Aphex Twin, is notorious for his reclusiveness and his playful disregard for conventional music industry norms. He’s released music under numerous aliases, creating a labyrinth of sonic identities.
In December of 2024 Aphex Twin also released, with very little fanfare, the compilation album, Music From The Merch Desk (2016-2023). Staying true to his unconventional methods.
Beyond music, James is a visual artist in his own right, often collaborating on his own music videos and album art. The Supreme collaboration showcases this visual side, bringing his iconic imagery to streetwear.
Aphex Twin’s influence on electronic music is immeasurable. He’s pushed the boundaries of sound design, composition, and performance, inspiring generations of artists.
This collaboration is more than just a marketing ploy. It’s a testament to Aphex Twin’s enduring influence and his ability to transcend genres and mediums. It’s a chance to wear, hear, and experience the sonic and visual world of a true visionary.
Supreme and Richard D. James also unveiled a clothing collection together to masrk the partnership, featuring jackets, hats, jerseys, t-shirts and more inspired by the visuals from James classics like “Windowlicker” and “Come to Daddy.”
