Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune is adapted from a screenplay based on Frank Herbert’s novel of the same name, coming October 22 in theaters and on HBO Max.
Feuding royals, a deadly planet and a gifted young man who holds the destiny of everyone in his hands. Born to Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), Paul (Timothée Chalamet) inherits stewardship of Arrakis (aka Dune), a dangerous desert wasteland that’s home to vigilant natives (Zendaya as Chani) and melange (aka spice), the most precious resource in the entire universe. Known to extend life and grant its user with superhuman intellect and faster-than-light speed, they set out on a mining expedition to save what’s left from malevolent forces that would do anything to get it. As they face mind-bending realities, raging rebellions, and giant sandworms, the future becomes clear: only those who can conquer fear will survive.
Also starring Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgård, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Chang Chen, David Dastmalchian, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem.
Originally to be released on December 18th, 2020, Dune could be Warner Bros.’ and Legendary Pictures’ next major franchise. Plans for a sequel that would potentially cover the second half of Herbert’s original novel and an HBO Max prequel series, Dune: The Sisterhood, are both reportedly in the works.
