Moving pictures started nearly 200 years ago with ‘illusion toys’ for home use. The Phenakistoscope was invented by Joseph Plateau and sons in 1832, where pictures on one disc were viewed through slots in the other, and appeared to move when the two were spun and viewed in a mirror.
