Threads Introduces Location Sharing for Posts

Meta’s Threads app is rolling out a new location tagging feature that lets users add locations to their posts. While not available to all users yet, some have already reported seeing the update.

Similar to Instagram’s location tagging, Threads allows users to tag nearby places after granting location access or manually searching for one.

Meta states in the app that location sharing will help personalize content by showing information about nearby places. This change could enhance Threads’ search capabilities and make the platform more relevant for following breaking news and real-time events.

The update might also pave the way for future ads on Threads, as location data could become valuable for Meta’s advertising strategy. While Mark Zuckerberg has indicated that ads won’t come until the platform grows further, gathering location information is a significant step.

Meta has not yet responded to questions about the feature, and it seems to be in a gradual rollout phase. The location-sharing option briefly appeared for some users but is not yet available on the web version.
