Yann Tiersen: Kerber – The Film, famous for his soundtrack for the much loved french film Amelie back in 2001, the composer celebrates the release of his next groundbreaking album “Kerber”.
Produced by Up The Game and directed by Kit Monteith, Yann Tiersen collaborated with LIVENow to produce a film that portrays the composer performing each song on the album. The film is set in his studio, within the evocative setting of the French island of Ushant in Brittany, and skilfully blends music and landscape, creating a world in which the tangible and the ethereal become one.
The film is not only a special performance, it’s an ode to his homeland and the creative process that he went through to produce “Kerber” an album that combines the composer’s more overtly electronic material with his latest productions. The artist spent most of 2020 busy producing the album, first composing melodies on the piano and then transforming and processing them with electronic sounds and creating immersive soundscapes. Just like the “Kerber” album, the film was made by blending traditional and modern formats.
Director Kit Monteith says, “We wanted to document the completely new sound that Tiersen is developing, using analog electronic systems, redefining piano compositions through experimental sampling and synthesis. We hoped to capture the spirit of his new compositions within a dynamic performative film. Through the use of new and familiar materials I used the 35mm camera as an analog tool to explore and film the natural spaces of the island. The blend of these digital and analogue cinematic elements mirrors Yann Tiersen’s creative approach. The film embraces their differences as it tries to find a strange new harmony between them. “
Expect a one-of-a-kind performance powered by themes of nature, nostalgia and atmosphere, with intimate shots of Yann’s Eskal studio and footage from the bleakly beautiful island of Ushant. Tickets on sale on LIVENow are currently available at a cost of € 5.00, for any information you can visit the LIVENOW website .
