Director Maggie Gyllenhaal, partnering with Warner Bros. on a new period horror film titled “The Bride,” unveiled glimpses from a recent camera test on her Instagram. The images showcase a chillingly unrecognizable Christian Bale in his role as Frankenstein’s monster. He stands alongside Jessie Buckley, the Oscar-nominated star of Gyllenhaal’s previous film “The Lost Daughter,” who portrays the titular bride in this fresh take on the classic tale.

Director Maggie Gyllenhaal assembles a powerhouse cast for her upcoming horror film, “The Bride.” Academy Award-nominated actors Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley lead the charge, joined by the ever-magnetic Penélope Cruz, the versatile Peter Sarsgaard, and the legendary Annette Bening. This impressive ensemble, along with the talent of “Joker” cinematographer Lawrence Sher behind the camera, promises a truly unforgettable cinematic experience.

Set in the gritty underbelly of 1930s Chicago, the film centers on a murdered young woman brought back from the dead. Played by the captivating Jessie Buckley, this shocking creation defies expectations, yearning for love and sparking a radical movement that challenges the very fabric of society.

Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride” isn’t the only Frankenstein movie on the way. Guillermo del Toro is currently filming his own Frankenstein, starring “Euphoria” and “Saltburn” star Jacob Elordi as the iconic monster. Del Toro’s film is backed by Netflix and features Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley Christian Convery, Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz.

Warner Bros. is set to release Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride!” in theaters and Imax on October 2, 2025.
